When your mind is made up, desires take shape and turn into reality, and that’s exactly what happened with Time ’n Style. In 1997, when I first visited BASELWORLD (the world’s largestwatch, clock and jewellery exhibition), I had made up my mind that I would introduce India to its first luxury watch magazine. Rightly so, in 2002, Time ’n Style was born. It is said that if you love what you do, then you don’t have to work for a single day. That’s exactly how timehas gone by for us at Time ’n Style. Thank you, readers, for making it a great success!
Today, we are on cloud nine and the occasion of our ninth anniversary is a very unique one. Just the thought of nine, as a number, evokes powerful feelings. Most people don’t realize the full power of the number nine. Firstly, it’s the highest single digit in the decimal system. That may not seem like much, but what’s magical is the number’s multiplication table. For
every product of the multiplication table, the sum of the digits in the product adds up to nine. On deeper thought, it resonates with positivity because this number is associated with a positive aspect of life—the nine months of pregnancy, the gestation period before the creation of a new life. It was with this strength and positivity that we ushered in our ninth anniversary. When my team came up with the idea of celebrating this issue with the theme of the nine planets of the Solar System, it clicked instantly! However, it was challenging to bring about a connection between the movement of the planets and movement of the watches. It was sheer coincidence that around the time we were working on this special issue, I attended the Panerai event in Florence, Italy, where the brand unveiled its new movement— the P.3000 hand-wound mechanical calibre and the unique Jupiterium clock-planetarium, which connected with our theme perfectly. Held at the magnificent Palazzo Vecchio in the Piazza Della Signoria in Florence, combining the best of 14th century architecture, the event was indeed a memorable one. What better ground than this to pay tribute to a genius called Galileo Galilei! Titled ‘Time and Space: A Tribute to Galileo Galilei’, the event paid homage to the genius, with an astronomical trio comprising three exceptional timepieces— L’Astronomo, Lo Scienziato and the Panerai Jupiterium clock-planetarium. See page 106 for the detailed story. Another interesting interacting was with Omega’s brand ambassador, Abhishek Bachchan on his love for watches (see page 46). It was great to see the junior Bachchan conducting himself with such humility and a professional attitude, besides being firmly grounded and practical in his approach. This September, Time ’n Style also witnessed another impressive event in the Eternal City of Rome, when Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, Asian film star Chi Ling Lin and Kate Winslet, all Longines Ambassadors of Elegance came together on the sets of a film based on
the Italian way of life—la Dolce Vita. As a perfect embodiment of the values upheld by Longines, the three beautifully personified the Longines slogan, ‘Elegance is an attitude’. The event marked the brands latest addition to the Longines DolceVita collection, in steel with yellow or rose gold.
